An ingredient worthy of extraordinary care
Saffron begins with a remarkable flower. Each Crocus sativus produces just three crimson stigmas, gathered during a brief harvest and carefully dried to reveal the spice's distinctive aroma, colour and character.
For KHAN, however, the harvest is only the beginning.
The Art of Selection
We believe exceptional saffron cannot be defined by a single geographical origin.
Growing conditions vary from one region to another and from one harvest to the next. Changes in climate, environmental conditions and geographical constraints continually influence the character and availability of the ingredient.
Our approach is therefore guided by selection rather than allegiance to one origin. We seek out distinguished harvests across saffron-growing regions, considering the qualities of each before selecting those that meet KHAN's standards.
The origin may change. Our criteria remain.
From Harvest to House
Selection is only the first responsibility.
Once chosen, saffron requires careful handling throughout its journey. We place particular importance on transportation and the conditions under which the ingredient is received, examined and prepared.
At the KHAN Atelier, the selected saffron undergoes a meticulous process of inspection, purification and refinement, with attention to the integrity of each thread. Every stage serves the same purpose: to preserve the qualities for which the harvest was selected.
The Preservation
Our responsibility does not end with selection or preparation. Saffron is sensitive to its environment. Light, heat, moisture and inappropriate storage can compromise the qualities that make it distinctive.
Preservation is therefore central to the KHAN philosophy. From controlled storage to carefully considered packaging, our methods are designed to protect the ingredient and preserve its aromatic and sensory character.
The presentation is not merely an expression of the House. It is part of the care given to what lies within.
The Final Expression
What begins in the field must arrive with its character intact. Our attention to selection, transportation, preparation, storage and packaging follows one continuous principle: to preserve the integrity of saffron throughout its journey. From the harvest to the moment the presentation is opened, every detail has its purpose.
This is the House of KHAN.
